New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, leading the Trinamool Congress, will start campaigning for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls on March 31, a party leader said on Tuesday.


While doctors have advised her to rest after she sustained a major injury on her forehead after a fall at her residence on March 14. Since then CM Banerjee remain absent from the campaign trail due to her injury.


"Our party supremo will begin the poll campaign on March 31. She will address her first rally in Krishnanagar's Dhubulia in Nadia district. There, she will campaign for TMC's Krishnanagar candidate Mahua Moitra and Ranaghat candidate Mukut Mani Adhikari", the party leader told PTI. 


TMC Lok Sabha Candidates List 


CM Banerjee had announced the Trinamool Congress' candidates for all 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal during a grand rally held at Kolkata's Brigade Parade Grounds on March 10th. This list featured prominent figures like Yusuf Pathan, Kirti Azad, Haji Nurul Islam, and Mahua Moitra among others, reported PTI.

However, West Bengal Chief Minister's party retained 16 out of 23 sitting MPs while replacing certain candidates, including Nusrat Jahan and former BJP member Arjun Singh. The comprehensive candidate announcement by TMC leaves no space for its ally Congress as the seat-sharing didn't work out.


Notably, the TMC has also introduced fresh faces in the upcoming elections including Saayoni Ghosh, Debangshu Bhattacharya, Gopal Lama, MLA June Maliah, Bapi Haldar and actress Rachana Banerjee from the seats of Jadavpur, Tamluk, a stronghold of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, Darjeeling and Medinipur respectively.


The 2024 general election in West Bengal is scheduled to be conducted across all 7 phases from April 19th to June 1 to elect 42 members of the 18th Lok Sabha. The results will be declared on 4 June.
