'Modi Insulted Chhattisgarh': Congress Chief Kharge Slams PM's Lok Sabha Address In Janjgir

With ‘Bharose Ka Sammelan’ event, Mallikarjun Kharge sounded the bugle for the party's campaign in Chhattisgarh that are scheduled to go to polls later this year.

New Delhi: Launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said instead of replying to the questions posed by party leader Rahul Gandhi on the violence in Manipur, PM Modi, mocked “Nehru and the Congress” during his Lok Sabha speech in response to the no-confidence motion.

Addressing ‘Bharose Ka Sammelan’ event in Chhattisgarh's Janjgir district on Sunday, Kharge said the saffron party claims “everything has been done by PM Modi”. “Modi Ji didn't answer (on Manipur), on what Rahul Gandhi or the others leaders of INDIA bloc asked him. Instead, he made fun of Nehru ji and Congress leaders. PM Modi keeps saying that he has done everything. PM Modi and Amit Shah studied in government schools established by us. Or did they study in London or Oxford? And they ask us what the Congress did in last 70 years? We had only put everything in place,” Kharge said.

He further slammed PM Modi for “comparing the situation in Manipur with Chhattisgarh” and said it is an insult to the people of the state.

"Bhupesh Baghel ke paas Aladdin ka chirag hai, jo maangoge wo milega...PM Modi compared the Manipur incident with Chhattisgarh and it is an insult to the people of the state....PM Modi is scared of going to Manipur. He is busy with election campaigns but did not go to Manipur,” Kharge said.

Kharge sounded the bugle for the party's campaign in Chhattisgarh that are scheduled to go to polls later this year.

Notably, Congress could win only two of the six seats in Janjgir-Champa district despite a landslide victory in the 2018 assembly polls. BJP and BSP bagged two seats each from the rest of the constituencies. According to PTI, in the last elections, Congress had won 68 of the total 90 seats in Chhattisgarh, while the BJP finished a distant second at 15. The JCC (J) won five seats and its ally BSP got two. The Congress currently has 71 members in the Assembly.

After Chhattisgarh, Kharge will visit Telangana on August 18, Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal on August 22, and Rajasthan’s Jaipur on August 23, these are the states where elections will be held this year and these will set the battleground for the 2024 general elections.
