'Chhattisgarh Govt Schools In Terrible Condition': Kejriwal Pitches For Delhi Model In Poll-Bound State

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is the only outfit that talks about building schools and hospitals. 

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday addressed a public meeting in Chhattisgarh's Raipur where he claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is the only political outfit that talks about building schools and hospitals. He cited a report claiming that government schools in the Congress-ruled state are in "terrible condition" while pitching for bringing his government's education model to improve government-run schools.

"It has been 76 years since India got its independence, but I have not seen a single party apart from AAP which says it will build schools and hospitals. We are not politicians and we didn't enter politics to make money," he said in the poll-bound state, as quoted by news agency PTI.

 "I was reading a report, government schools in Chhattisgarh are in terrible condition. However, look at the condition of government schools in Delhi. For the first time since Independence, a government has come that is doing so much for the education sector," he claimed.

The AAP chief convenor appealed to voters in Chhattisgarh to give his party a chance, "We are not politicians, we are just common people like you. Give us one chance in Chhattisgarh and you will forget all other parties."

Meanwhile, his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) saying, “We don’t make up ‘jumla’ like them, we promise what we can deliver on.”

On manifesto promises, he went on to say, "Parties used to issue Manifesto before elections. If one party promised 1 lakh jobs, the other used to promise 2 lakhs. One party used to write in the manifesto that it will give ₹5/Kg rice and the other used to write ₹4/kg. Because all they had to do is write, with no intention to give."

"Then came the AAP having educated people, which does not issue a manifesto, does not make false promises. AAP gives Guarantee, which it also fulfills," the Punjab Chief Minister added.

Last month, Arvind Kejriwal addressed a public rally in Bilaspur. In March, he took part in an AAP workers' convention in Raipur.

Earlier, the AAP tried its luck for the first time in the assembly elections in Chhattisgarh in 2018 and fielded candidates in 85 of 90 seats but failed to make a difference.

Meanwhile, the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), eyeing a comeback, has released its first list of candidates, including Durg MP Vijay Baghel, for 21 seats where it had faced defeat last time.
