Just two days before polling in Andhra Pradesh, the police in East Godavari seized around Rs 7 crores in cash, stored in seven boxes in a vehicle on Saturday. The seizure came after the vehicle carrying it overturned in Nallajarla Mandal of East Godavari district when it was hit by a lorry at Anantapally.


According to ANI, "Rs 7 Crores cash, kept in seven boxes, seized in East Godavari district. A vehicle had overturned after being hit by a lorry at Anantapally in Nallajarla Mandal. Locals noticed that 7 cardboard boxes, containing cash, were being transferred in that vehicle and informed the police. The vehicle was going from Vijayawada towards Visakhapatnam. The driver of the overturned vehicle sustained injuries and was transferred to Gopalapuram Hospital for treatment."

In the meantime, authorities have initiated an inquiry to determine the origin of the confiscated cash.

This development follows closely after an unrelated incident where unreported funds totaling Rs 8 crore were discovered in a truck at a checkpoint within the state's NTR district just two days back. Two individuals have been apprehended in relation to the cash recovery. Notably, the cash was concealed within a concealed compartment of the truck loaded with pipes.


Andhra Pradesh is simultaneously set to vote for Assembly and Lok Sabha elections on May 13.
