The Election Commission on Wednesday announced that the state assembly elections in Karnataka will take place on May 10, with the results being declared on May 13. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar stated that the notification for the 224-member assembly elections will be released on April 13 and the deadline for filing nomination papers is April 20. Nomination papers will be scrutinized on April 21 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations will be April 24. Kumar explained that the elections have been scheduled on a Wednesday to encourage greater participation of voters.
