Aam Aap Party on Friday withdrew its candidate from the Guwahati Lok Sabha seat and demanded Congress to withdraw their candidates from Sonitpur and Dibrugarh in Assam.
Posting a letter, Assam unit of AAP said in an X post, "Letter from AAP, Assam to the leadership of the Opposition Unity. Through this letter, we hope that the Opposition will contest the elections together and defeat the BJP. This fight requires sacrifice. It is a mystery to us how the Congress has made thirteen out of fourteen seats in Assam alone."
"We, the Aam Aadmi Party, have given up the Guwahati seat in the interest of Opposition unity. We demand the leadership of the Opposition Unity that you also give up the two seats in Dibrugarh and Sonitpur," the AAP said.
"This is why the Aam Aadmi Party became part of the INDI Alliance with only one objective to defeat the BJP, everything else comes after that. It doesn't matter whether we get some seats more or less; the party or candidate who can defeat the BJP must get the ticket," the AAP said in the letter.
The party further said, "We also challenge the Congress party and United Opposition Forum to reciprocate our gesture by withdrawing its candidate from Sonitpur and Dibrugarh Loksabha seat. Else it will be clear that the Congress party has done a setting with BJP and is fighting only to make sure BJP wins. People of Assam will not accept this".
Meanwhile, the opposition has announced AJP leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi as their joint candidate for Dibrugarh, indicating a united front against the ruling party. In a related development, Bhupen Borah has written a letter urging AAP, CPI, and CPI(M) to work together for the 2026 State Elections, implying a potential shift in the political landscape.
