Tumkur: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Muddahanumegowda.S.P. from Indian National Congress (INC) won the elections by a margin of 74041 votes. The polling / voting in Tumkur constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 2 on 18 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s G S Basavaraju and Janata Dal (Secular)#s H. D. Deve Gowda

Tumkur 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 17 out of the 28 parliamentary seat with 43 percent vote share while the Indian National Congress managed to win just 9 seats with a 40.8 percent vote share.

Out of the 16 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Tumkur, 13 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Muddahanumegowda.S.P. of the Indian National Congress as he defeated G.S.Basavaraj by a margin of 74041 votes.

Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Gangasandra Siddappa Basavaraj attained 331064 votes and Janata Dal (Secular) candidate Muddahanumegowda S.P. bagged 309619 votes
• 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Bharatiya Janta Party and Janata Dal (Secular) here Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated his Janata Dal (Secular) counterpart with a difference of 2351 votes.
• 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate by a margin of 63937 votes INC candidate G.S.Basavaraj had got 318922 while BJP got S.Mallikarjunaiah votes.
• 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 71187 votes BJP candidate S.Mallikarjunaiah had got 327312 while INC got R.Narayana votes.
• 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, JD candidate defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate with a difference of 15712 votes. Here, JD leader C N Bhaskarappa attained 192228 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate S Mallikarjunaiah bagged 176516 votes
• 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 18917 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader S. Mallikarjunaiah attained 255186 votes and Indian National Congress candidate G.S. Basavaraj bagged 236269 votes
• 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated JNP(JP) candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate G.S.Basavaraj attained 376878 votes and JNP(JP)'s Y.K.Ramalah bagged 177740 votes.
• 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated JNP candidate with a difference of 30410 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader G. S. Basavaraju attained 265249 votes and JNP candidate Y. K. Ramaiah bagged 234839 votes
• 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated JNP candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC(I) candidate K. Lakkappa attained 243229 votes and JNP's S. Mallikarjuniah bagged 126168 votes.
• 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated BLD candidate by a margin of 66817 votes INC candidate K. Lakkappa had got 237086 while BLD got S. Mallikarjuniah votes.
• 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated NCO candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate K. Lakkappa attained 240718 votes and NCO's M. R. Ramanna bagged 78939 votes.
• 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between PSP and INC; here PSP candidate defeated his INC counterpart with a difference of 261 votes.
• 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated PSP candidate with a difference of 48893 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader M. V. Krishnappa attained 119617 votes and PSP candidate K. N. Shankaralingappa bagged 70724 votes
• 1957 Lok Sabha Elections: In Second Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated PSP candidate by a margin of 64388 votes INC candidate M. V. Krishnappa had got 116863 while PSP got B. P. Gangadharaiah votes.
• 1951 Lok Sabha Elections: In India's Very First Lok Sabha Polls, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated SP candidate by a margin of 68840 votes INC candidate C. R. Basappa had got 116596 while SP got Kadri Shamanna votes.
