Background

Saharanpur: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Raghav Lakhanpal from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 65090 votes. The polling / voting in Saharanpur constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 1 on 11 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Raghav Lakhanpal and Bahujan Samaj Party#s Haji Fazul rahman

Saharanpur 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 71 out of the 80 parliamentary seat with 42.3 percent vote share while the Samajwadi Party managed to win just 5 seats with a 22.2 percent vote share.

The total voter turnout was 74.23% Lok Sabha percent with 74.81% Lok Sabha percent male voters turning out to cast their votes. Meanwhile, 73.56% Lok Sabha percent of the women voters cast their votes and 6267 Lok Sabha voters pressed on the NOTA

Out of the 14 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Saharanpur, 11 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Raghav Lakhanpal of the Bharatiya Janta Party as he defeated Imran Masood by a margin of 65090 votes.

  • 2009 Lok Sabha Elections: In 15th Lok Sabha election, Bahujan Samaj Party candidate had defeated Samajwadi Party candidate by a margin of 84873 votes BSP candidate Jagdish Singh Rana had got 354807 while SP got Rasheed Masood votes.
  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha election, Samajwadi Party candidate defeated Bahujan Samaj Party candidate with a difference of 26828 votes. Here, Samajwadi Party leader Rasheed Masood attained 353272 votes and Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Mansoor Ali Khan bagged 326444 votes
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Bahujan Samaj Party candidate defeated Rashtriya Lok Dal candidate with a difference of 22307 votes. Here, Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mansoor Ali Khan attained 235659 votes and Rashtriya Lok Dal candidate Rasheed Masood bagged 213352 votes
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate had defeated Bahujan Samaj Party candidate by a margin of 59836 votes BJP candidate Nakli Singh had got 275103 while BSP got Kanshiram votes.
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Bharatiya Janta Party and Samajwadi Party here Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated his Samajwadi Party counterpart with a difference of 2499 votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, JD candidate defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate with a difference of 18342 votes. Here, JD leader Rashed Masood attained 246445 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Naqali Singh bagged 228103 votes
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha poll, JD candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, JD candidate Rashid Masood attained 319317 votes and INC's Chaudhary Yashpal Singh bagged 199549 votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated LKD candidate by a margin of 72609 votes INC candidate Yashpal Singh had got 277339 while LKD got Rasheed Masood votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, JNP(S) candidate defeated JNP candidate with a difference of 43676 votes. Here, JNP(S) leader Rasheed Masood attained 155933 votes and JNP candidate Qamar Alam bagged 112257 votes
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha poll, BLD candidate defated INC candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BLD candidate Rasheed Masood attained 263777 votes and INC's Zahid Hasan bagged 100392 votes.
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated NCO candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Sunder Lall attained 185199 votes and NCO's Ram Singh bagged 37809 votes.
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated SSP candidate with a difference of 37652 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader S. Lal attained 120891 votes and SSP candidate S. Singh bagged 83239 votes
  • 1957 Lok Sabha Elections: In Second Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated IND candidate by a margin of 63085 votes INC candidate Ajit Prasad Jain had got 202081 while IND got Athar Hasan Khwaja votes.
  • 1951 Lok Sabha Elections: In India's Very First Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated SP candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Sunder Lal attained 253220 votes and SP's Mulki Raj bagged 63848 votes.
