New Delhi: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Meenakashi Lekhi from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 162708 votes. The polling / voting in New Delhi constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 6 on 12 May. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Minakshi Lekhi and Congress Party#s Ajay Maken

New Delhi 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 7 out of the 7 parliamentary seat with 46.4 percent vote share while the Aam Aadmi Party managed to win just seats with a 34.9 percent vote share.

Out of the 29 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from New Delhi, 26 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Meenakashi Lekhi of the Bharatiya Janta Party as he defeated Ashish Khetan by a margin of 162708 votes.

Here, Indian National Congress leader Ajay Makan attained 105415 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Jagmohan bagged 92631 votes
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 27893 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Jag Mohan attained 124626 votes and Indian National Congress candidate R.K.Dhawan bagged 96733 votes
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 32647 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Jagmohan attained 139905 votes and Indian National Congress candidate R.K. Dhawan bagged 107258 votes
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 58315 votes BJP candidate Jagmohan had got 139945 while INC got Rajesh Khanna votes.

Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Lal Krishna Advani attained 129256 votes and Indian National Congress candidate V. Mohini Giri bagged 97415 votes
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate by a margin of 72886 votes INC candidate Krsihan Chandra Pant had got 131932 while BJP got Kanwar Lal Gupta votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between JNP and Indian National Congress here JNP candidate defeated his Indian National Congress counterpart with a difference of 5045 votes.

  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, BJS candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 24860 votes. Here, BJS leader M.L Sondhi attained 82173 votes and INC candidate M.C. Khanna bagged 57313 votes
  • 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated JS candidate with a difference of 31595 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Mehr Chand Khanna attained 96264 votes and JS candidate Balraj Madhok bagged 64669 votes
  • 1957 Lok Sabha Elections: In Second Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated BJS candidate by a margin of 53814 votes INC candidate Sucheta Kripalani had got 76540 while BJS got Bal Raj votes.
  • 1951 Lok Sabha Elections: In India's Very First Lok Sabha Polls, interesting battle could be seen between KMPP and INC here KMPP candidate defeated his INC counterpart with a difference of 7671 votes.
