Background

Meerut: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Rajendra Agarwal from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 232326 votes. The polling / voting in Meerut constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 1 on 11 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Rajendra Agarwal and Bahujan Samaj Party#s Hazi Mohammad Yakoob

Meerut 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 71 out of the 80 parliamentary seat with 42.3 percent vote share while the Samajwadi Party managed to win just 5 seats with a 22.2 percent vote share.

Voter turnout in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in Meerut Lok Sabha Lok Sabha constituency. The total voter turnout was 63.10% Lok Sabha percent with 65.11% Lok Sabha percent male voters turning out to cast their votes. Meanwhile, 60.64% Lok Sabha percent of the women voters cast their votes and 5213 Lok Sabha voters pressed on the NOTA

Out of the 13 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Meerut, 10 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Rajendra Agarwal of the Bharatiya Janta Party as he defeated Mohd.Shahid Akhlak by a margin of 232326 votes.

  • 2009 Lok Sabha Elections: In 15th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Bahujan Samaj Party candidate with a difference of 47146 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Rajendra Agrawal attained 232137 votes and Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Malook Nagar bagged 184991 votes
  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha election, Bahujan Samaj Party candidate had defeated Rashtriya Lok Dal candidate by a margin of 69336 votes BSP candidate Mohd. Shahid had got 252518 while RLD got Malook Nagar votes.
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate with a difference of 24836 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Avtar Singh Bhadana attained 258456 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Amar Pal Singh bagged 233620 votes
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Samajwadi Party candidate with a difference of 48805 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Amar Pal Singh attained 319168 votes and Samajwadi Party candidate Jagveer Singh bagged 270363 votes
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha poll, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defated JD candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BJP candidate Amar Pal Singh attained 310732 votes and JD's Mohd. Afzal bagged 142616 votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between N.A and N.A; here N.A candidate defeated his N.A counterpart with a difference of 0 votes.
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha poll, JD candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, JD candidate Harish Pal attained 312856 votes and INC's Mohsina Kidwai bagged 190815 votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated LKD candidate by a margin of 96518 votes INC candidate Mohsina Kidwai had got 238236 while LKD got Manzoor Ahmad votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated JNP(S) candidate by a margin of 57217 votes INC(I) candidate Mohsina Kidwai had got 179004 while JNP(S) got Harish Pal votes.
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha poll, BLD candidate defated INC candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BLD candidate Kailash Prakash attained 253035 votes and INC's Shahnawaz Khan bagged 128303 votes.
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated NCO candidate by a margin of 81799 votes INC candidate Shah Nawaz Khan had got 180181 while NCO got Hari Kishan votes.
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, SSP candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 38896 votes. Here, SSP leader M.S. Bharti attained 146172 votes and INC candidate S. Khan bagged 107276 votes
  • 1957 Lok Sabha Elections: In Second Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated CPI candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Shah Nawaz Khan attained 158280 votes and CPI's Brij Raj Kishore bagged 43359 votes.
  • 1951 Lok Sabha Elections: In India's Very First Lok Sabha Polls, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated IND candidate by a margin of 79050 votes INC candidate Khushi Ram Sharma had got 124601 while IND got Hukam Singh votes.
