The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Harinarayan Rajbhar and Bahujan Samaj Party#s Atul Rai

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 71 out of the 80 parliamentary seat with 42.3 percent vote share while the Samajwadi Party managed to win just 5 seats with a 22.2 percent vote share.

• 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, SAP candidate defeated Bahujan Samaj Party candidate with a difference of 18374 votes. Here, SAP leader Kalpnath Rai attained 222126 votes and Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Bal Krishna bagged 203752 votes
• 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Independent candidate defeated Bahujan Samaj Party candidate with a difference of 14552 votes. Here, Independent leader Kalapnath Rai attained 194789 votes and Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Mukhtar Ansari bagged 180237 votes
