Background

Etawah: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Ashok Kumar Doharey from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 172946 votes. The polling / voting in Etawah constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 4 on 29 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Ramashankar Katheriya and Samajwadi Party#s Kamlesh Katheria

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 71 out of the 80 parliamentary seat with 42.3 percent vote share while the Samajwadi Party managed to win just 5 seats with a 22.2 percent vote share.

  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Samajwadi Party candidate had defeated Bahujan Samaj Party candidate by a margin of 83683 votes SP candidate Raghuraj Singh Shakya had got 233065 while BSP got Shiv Prasad Yadav votes.
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Samajwadi Party candidate with a difference of 31038 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Sukhda Mishra attained 259980 votes and Samajwadi Party candidate Ram Singh Shakya bagged 228942 votes
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Samajwadi Party candidate defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate with a difference of 10733 votes. Here, Samajwadi Party leader Ram Singh Shakya attained 182015 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Sukhda Mishra bagged 171282 votes
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Bahujan Samaj Party candidate defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate with a difference of 22466 votes. Here, Bahujan Samaj Party leader Kanshi Ram attained 144290 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Lal Singh Verma bagged 121824 votes

  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated LKD candidate with a difference of 23068 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Raghuraj Singh attained 184404 votes and LKD candidate Dhani Ram Verma bagged 161336 votes
