As per ABP Exit Poll, in Karnataka, the BJP-led NDA seems to have the slender edge over the Congress, winning 15 out of the 28 parliamentary seats. The Congress is not faring badly either and is likely to clinch 13 seats in Karnataka.

New Delhi: The counting of votes for the seven-phase elections to the Lok Sabha is taking place today. The counting will begin at 8:00 am, bringing the curtains down on a bitterly-fought contest which the country rarely witnessed. The Southern states which account for 128 seats, excluding Vellore, are expected to play a crucial role in deciding the next government.
The fate of high-stake battle in Wayanad from where Rahul Gandhi is debuting as a candidate, apart from his traditional bastion Amethi, will also be decided today. According to ABP Exit Poll 2019, Rahul Gandhi is likely to win his second seat against Thushar Vellappally, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate.
Out of the 543 Lok Sabha seats, elections were held in 542 constituencies as the EC had cancelled polls to the Vellore constituency on the ground of excessive use of money power.
Of the 543 seats in fray, 128 seats in the Southern region including states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, went to polls.

Counting process:
Election Commission officials said the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections will begin at 8.00 am Thursday and results are expected only by late evening.
For the first time in Lok Sabha polls, the EC will tally vote count on Electronic Voting Machines with voter verified paper audit trail slips in five polling stations in each assembly segment of a parliamentary constituency.
It will effectively mean that out of nearly 10.3 lakh polling stations, the EVM-VVPAT matching will take place in 20,600 such stations. In case of a mismatch, the results based on paper slip count will be considered as final. The entire exercise of EVM-paper trail machine matching will take an additional four to five hours, EC officials said.
