Background

Chitradurga: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, B.N.Chandrappa from Indian National Congress (INC) won the elections by a margin of 101291 votes. The polling / voting in Chitradurga constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 2 on 18 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s A NarayanaSwamy and Congress Party#s B.n chandrappa

Chitradurga 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 17 out of the 28 parliamentary seat with 43 percent vote share while the Indian National Congress managed to win just 9 seats with a 40.8 percent vote share.

Voter turnout in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in Chitradurga Lok Sabha Lok Sabha constituency. The total voter turnout was 66.00% Lok Sabha percent with 67.85% Lok Sabha percent male voters turning out to cast their votes. Meanwhile, 64.09% Lok Sabha percent of the women voters cast their votes and 8895 Lok Sabha voters pressed on the NOTA

Out of the 14 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Chitradurga, 11 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of B.N.Chandrappa of the Indian National Congress as he defeated Janardhana Swamy by a margin of 101291 votes.

  • 2009 Lok Sabha Elections: In 15th Lok Sabha poll, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BJP candidate Janardhana Swamy attained 370920 votes and INC's Dr. B Thippeswamy bagged 235349 votes.
  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Janata Dal (Secular) candidate with a difference of 37460 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader N.Y. Hanumanthappa attained 322609 votes and Janata Dal (Secular) candidate Kodandaramaiah P bagged 285149 votes
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Janata Dal (United) candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 11178 votes. Here, Janata Dal (United) leader Shashi Kumar attained 370793 votes and Indian National Congress candidate C.P.Mudalagiriyappa bagged 359615 votes
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated LS candidate by a margin of 58321 votes INC candidate C.P.Mudala Giriyappa had got 321930 while LS got P.Kodandaramaiah votes.
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, JD candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 19382 votes. Here, JD leader P.Kodandaramaiah attained 251617 votes and Indian National Congress candidate C P Mudalagiriyappa bagged 232235 votes
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate by a margin of 82512 votes INC candidate C.P. Mudalagiriyappa had got 302847 while BJP got L.G. Havanura votes.
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated JD candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate C.P.Mudalagiriyappa attained 339303 votes and JD's M.Sanna Chikkappa bagged 197110 votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated JNP candidate by a margin of 56811 votes INC candidate K. H. Ranganath had got 279146 while JNP got B. L. Gowda votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated JNP candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC(I) candidate K. Mallanna attained 215180 votes and JNP's B.L. Gowda bagged 105819 votes.
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated BLD candidate by a margin of 86654 votes INC candidate K. Mallanna had got 227926 while BLD got H. C. Boraiah votes.
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated SWA candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Kondajji Basappa attained 251005 votes and SWA's J. Mohamed Imam bagged 81303 votes.
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, SWA candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 31932 votes. Here, SWA leader J. M. Imam attained 164548 votes and INC candidate S. Veerabasappa bagged 132616 votes
  • 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated PSP candidate with a difference of 44849 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader S. Veerabasappa attained 172673 votes and PSP candidate G. Basappa bagged 127824 votes
