Barrackpur: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Dinesh Trivedi from All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) won the elections by a margin of 206773 votes. The polling / voting in Barrackpur constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 5 on 6 May. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Arjun Singh and All India Trinamool Congress#s Dinesh Trivedi

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, All India Trinamool Congress won 34 out of the 42 parliamentary seat with 39.8 percent vote share while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) managed to win just 2 seats with a 23 percent vote share.

Here, Communist Party of India leader Tarit Baran Topdar attained 399269 votes and All India Trinamool Congress candidate Jayanta Bhattacharya bagged 358494 votes
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate defeated WBTC candidate with a difference of 27957 votes. Here, Communist Party of India leader Tarit Baran Topdar attained 383054 votes and WBTC candidate Adhikary Tarun bagged 355097 votes
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 50894 votes CPM candidate Tarit Baran Topdar had got 399466 while INC got Ghosal Debi votes.
