Arambagh: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Aparupa Poddar (Afrin Ali) from All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) won the elections by a margin of 346845 votes. The polling / voting in Arambagh constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 5 on 6 May. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Tapan Roy and All India Trinamool Congress#s Aparupa Poddar

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, All India Trinamool Congress won 34 out of the 42 parliamentary seat with 39.8 percent vote share while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) managed to win just 2 seats with a 23 percent vote share.

• 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 22220 votes. Here, Communist Party of India leader Manoranjan Hazra attained 137842 votes and INC candidate Santi Mohan Ray bagged 115622 votes
• 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, FBL candidate had defeated INC candidate by a margin of 82022 votes FBL candidate A. Bose had got 208724 while INC got S. Choudhury votes.

चुनाव आयोग के द्वारा वीवीपैट को लेकर दिए गए फैसले पर लेफ्ट नेता सीताराम येचुरी ने सवाल उठाए हैं. उन्होंने कहा कि EC का ये फैसला सुप्रीम कोर्ट के आदेश के खिलाफ है. यदि चुनावी प्रक्रिया की अखंडता के लिए इस प्रक्रिया को इतना लंबा खींचा गया है, तो चुनाव आयोग पहले नमूने के परीक्षण के मूल सिद्धांत का पालन क्यों नहीं कर रहा है? उन्होंने लिखा कि वीवीपैट की पर्चियों का मिलान भी सुबह वोटों की गिनती के साथ शुरू होनी चाहिए. अगर ऐसा नहीं होता है, तो लॉ एंड ऑर्डर की स्थिति बिगड़ सकती है.

विपक्षी पार्टियों को चुनाव आयोग से बड़ा झटका लगा है. चुनाव आयोग ने वीवीपैट मिलान की मांग को ठुकरा दिया है. चुनाव आयोग ने अपनी बैठक के बाद 22 विपक्षी पार्टियों की उस मांग को ठुकरा दिया है, जिसमें उन्होंने कहा था कि काउंटिंग से पहले वीवीपैट (VVPAT) की पर्चियों को गिना जाए. मंगलवार को देश की 22 मुख्य विपक्षी पार्टियों के नेताओं ने चुनाव आयोग के सामने ये मांग रखी थी कि काउंटिंग से पहले वीवीपैट के पर्चियों की गिनती हो, पर्ची और ईवीएम में समानता ना होने पर पूरी विधानसभा के वीवीपैट के पर्चियों को गिना जाए. हालांकि अब आयोग ने विपक्षी दलों की मांग को ठुकराकर ये साफ कर दिया है कि VVPAT पर्ची मिलान की प्रक्रिया में कोई बदलाव नहीं किया जाएगा.

ईवीएम पर खूब सवाल उठ रहे हैं लेकिन पूर्व मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त ओ पी रावत ने कहा कि ईवीएम में छेड छाड और बदलना संभव ही नहीं है. नई ईवीएम में थोडी भी छेड़छाड़ करने से मशीन फैक्टी मोड में चली जाती है इसलिए छेड़छाड़ संभव नहीं है.

23 मई यानी कल चुनाव के नतीजे आने हैं. उससे पहले विपक्ष ने देश के चुनावी चौकीदार चुनाव आयोग की चौकीदारी पर सवाल उठाए हैं. आज वो तस्वीर सामने आई है वो ऐतिहासिक है. कभी पहले नहीं हुआ. चुनाव आय़ोग के खिलाफ प्रदर्शन हो गया. कुछ लोग आज दिल्ली में चुनाव आयोग के दफ्तर के बाहर पोस्टर बैनर लेकर आए गए. जमकर नारेबाजी की. ईवीएम को लेकर विपक्ष की 22 पार्टियां कल चुनाव आयोग गई थी. कई आरोप लगाए. कई सुझाव दिए. इन सुझावों पर गौर करने के लिए इस समय चुनाव आयोग में बैठक भी हो रही है लेकिन जब बैठक हो रही है तब बाहर हुड़दंग हो रहा है.

चुनाव आयोग ईवीएम के मुद्दे पर आज बैठक कर रहा है. लेकिन बाहर प्रदर्शन चल रहा है. रिवॉल्यूशन पार्टी के कार्यकर्ता चुनाव आयोग के बाहर प्रदर्शन कर रहे हैं, उनकी मांग 50 फीसदी वीवीपैट पर्चियों के मिलान की है.
