The Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Arjun Munda, inaugurated the 4th EMRS National Cultural & Literary Fest and Kala Utsav- 2023 in Dehradun today, October 3, 2023. Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushka Singh Dhami was also present at the inauguration ceremony. Organised by the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) under Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs, and hosted by Eklavya Vidyalaya Sangathan Samiti (EVSS), Uttarakhand, the event will be held for the next four days till October 6, 2023, at the Maharana Pratap Sports College, Dehradun.
The Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) Cultural Fest serves as a seamless platform for tribal students from across the country to showcase their talent in various streams and disciplines. More than 2000 tribal students from 22 states of the country would showcase their performances in the fourth iteration of the EMRS Cultural Fest this year. ACross its four days, the event has over 20 different programmes lined up ranging from dance and song performances to quiz and visual arts and more. The fest will also witness stalls from different states showcasing their tribal culture.
At the inauguration ceremony, Union Minister Arjun Munda underlined the importance of such events as a platform to facilitate interaction and meetings among children and teachers of the EMRS, allowing them to dive deeper and explore the vast cultural variations of different states of the country. “I believe that such programmes will inspire you and give you a good opportunity to know about your own culture as well as the rich traditions of the tribal communities living in different corners of the country,” Arjun Munda was quoted as saying in an official release.
Speaking at the inauguration event, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami further shed light upon the tribal culture of Uttarakhand and the welfare schemes roped in by the Uttarakhand government for the Scheduled Tribes in the State. Dr. Naval Jit Kapoor, Joint Secretary M/o Tribal Affairs and Commissioner, NESTS, who was also present at the ceremony, briefed about the EMRS scheme. The inaugural ceremony of the cultural festival witnessed performances from various tribal communities of Uttarakhand and students of EMRS.
Notably, the ‘EMRS National Cultural Fest’ is a prominent festival for tribal students pursuing education in the EMRSs. Among the flagship interventions of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the EMRS scheme was revamped in 2018-19 to ensure quality education for tribal students for the country.
