School Reopening: Schools across the country were closed after the nationwide lockdown on March 24 last year in the wake of the corona pandemic. Although offline classes resumed from October last year, schools were once again forced to close after the deadly second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India that led to the death of the students. Though the pandemic has hampered the academic progress of the students, many states and union territory (UT) governments are considering reopening the schools. Let us know which states are gearing up to reopen schools.


Bihar- In Bihar, schools, and colleges are about to reopen. In fact, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar tweeted in this regard on Monday that, 'Universities, all colleges, technical educational institutions, government training institutes, schools up to class XI and XII will open in the state with 50% attendance of students." Special arrangements for vaccination will be made for adult students, teachers, and employees of educational institutions.


Madhya Pradesh- The decision to reopen the school where the students may attend the school physically will first be discussed with the Centre, other states, and experts and then changes will be made. Online classes of students have started from July 1.


Gujarat- Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said, "After the decision is taken in the high-level meeting of the state government, schools will reopen in Gujarat."


Uttar Pradesh- The UP government has decided to continue online education for the time being. Schools have been opened for teachers and other staff members only for administrative work. No student is allowed to enter the school.


Delhi - Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia had said that schools will reopen under the three-phase action plan. In the first phase, teachers and students will be connected online. After this, the second phase will start from July 5, 2021 during which teachers will work for the emotional and mental well-being of the students. The third phase will begin in August and will focus on class-based activities. Worksheets will be given to the students studying in Nursery to Class VIII.


Uttarakhand- The government has allowed both private and government schools to resume online classes from July 1. In fact, the schools in Uttarakhand were closed for the summer holidays in May. However, the state is yet to decide on opening schools and allowing students to attend classes physically.


Telangana- The Telangana government has decided to resume online classes in the state. Classes from KG to postgraduate level have resumed from July 1.


Rajasthan- Schools have reopened in the state of Rajasthan and admissions have started for the new session. However, students are not allowed to attend school. The Education Minister Govind Dotsara recently said that they will reopen the schools after the coronavirus infection subsides or once the vaccine is available for children.
