Never Conducted Written Examination For In-House Recruitment In Regional Languages: CRPF Amid Row

The CRPF has clarified that it has never conducted written examinations for in-house recruitments in regional languages.

Amidst the growing demand to conduct CRPF Recruitment Exam in regional languages from Tamil Nadu and Telangana, the CRPF has clarified that it has never conducted written examinations for in-house recruitment in regional languages. Recently, the demand to conduct the written examination of the CRPF Recruitment in regional languages has gained significant political traction in the past few days. On April 9, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin wrote a letter to the union Home Minister Amit Shah, contending the omission of Tamil language in the CRPF Recruitment Test. 

In his letter, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister underlined the non-inclusion of Tamil from the CRPF Constable Recruitment Notification 2023. The notification invites applications from suitable candidates across the country to fill a total of 9,212 Constable (Technical & Tradesmen) vacancies in the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force). Out of the total vacancies, 579 candidates are to be selected from Tamil Nadu for the recruitment. 

Writing to the Union Home Minister, MK Stalin highlighted that the presence of no other language than Hindi and English in the CRPF Recruitment Exam forbids Tamil candidates to take the test in their own language, in their own state. He further added that the 25 out of the total 100 marks allotted to ‘Hindi Comprehension’ is oriented towards benefitting Hindi-speaking candidates only. 

Soon after the matter surfaced, opposition parties from the poll-bound Karnataka also jumped into the foray. Attacking the exclusion of local languages in CRPF exams, Senior Congress Leader Siddharamaiah said: “the double-engine government has failed our youth.” 

In a series of tweets, he further added that, “I urge the Prime Minister to immediately allow the candidates to write the CRPF recruitment exam in Kannada too. It is important to relax the rule of writing the exam only in English & Hindi to help candidates from non-hindi states. Language does not reflect knowledge, it is just a medium of communication. Though candidates who have studied in Kannada medium are smart, they are unable to clear the exams because of language barrier. This is injustice towards our youth.”

DS leader HD Kumaraswamy said that, “All of the central government’s recruitment tests are only conducted in Hindi and English. This is depriving other speakers of jobs.” The CRPF recruitment language row further gains importance from the ongoing Amul vs Nandini conflict, that has been invoking pro-Kannada sentiments in the poll-bound southern state.
