Bihar Cabinet Revises Teachers Recruitment Norms: Domicile No More Required For Teaching Jobs In State

As per the new rule, Non-Biharis would also be able to get teaching jobs in the state.

The Bihar government has revised the teachers recruitment norms in the state. As per the revised rules, Bihar State Domicile would no longer be required to acquire teaching jobs in the state. The fresh move from the Bihar government paves way for Non-Biharis to get teaching jobs in the state. The new changes to the state teachers recruitment rules were introduced in the Bihar cabinet meeting held today, June 27, 2023. Previously, only Bihar residents with a domicile were allowed to participate in Bihar Teachers Recruitment.

Importantly, the revised rule would also be applicable to the Bihar government's latest recruitment notification for the recruitment of over 1.7 lakh teachers in the state. Online applications for the recruitment are underway and the last date to submit the Bihar Teachers Recruitment Registration cum Application Forms 20223 is July 12, 2023.

It may be noted that the Bihar Teachers Association and aspirants of the 2019 Bihar Teachers Recruitment aspirants have already been voicing against the previously revised Bihar teachers Recruitment policies. In the backdrop of the lacklustre teachers recruitment in the state despite severe shortage, the fresh revision to the recruitment norms has already started drawing ire from aspirants and activists alike.

Earlier last month, the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) started inviting applications for the recruitment of 1,70,461 teachers in the state. The application process for the recruitment began on June 15, 2023. The written exam for the recruitment is tentatively scheduled to be held by the end of August 2023, while the result of the exam is likely to be released by the end of 2023.

Speaking on the revisions in the teachers recruitment norms, student union leader Dilip Kumar said that this is a very wrong decision by the Bihar government, and we, the candidates of Bihar feel that we have been deprived of our rights. He further added that all states have basic reservation for the native people of the state. If the Bihar government is offering 35% reservation to women, then women from other states would also be able to apply for teachers recruitment in Bihar and avail reservation under the 35% quota for women, he added.

Dilip further termed the Bihar government’s decision as ‘fraud,’ and cheating with the local candidates of Bihar. He added that he and other student leaders have been talking with other candidates on this matter, and if needed, they will even call for a larger agitation against the decision.
