New Delhi: After the CBSE's decision to cancel pending board exams due to the rising COVID-19 cases, students are apprehensive that it might lead to the cancellation of JEE and NEET exams.

The cancellation of the CBSE Board Exam 2020 was announced on Thursday after the Supreme Court took up the petitions filed by parents. The Board has decided to cancel Class 10 exams altogether but Class 12th students can opt to appear for the board exams, the board will conduct the exam for these students when the conditions are conducive.  The ICSE Board has also announced the cancellation of ICSE Board Exam 2020. The ICSE has decided to cancel both the Class 10th and 12th boards.

Medical and Engineering students are now concerned that JEE and NEET exams will be cancelled. So far, there has been no official announcement has been made. JEE Mains 2020 is scheduled to be conducted from July 18th to July 23rd whereas NEET 2020 is scheduled to be held on July 26th. Joint Entrance Exam-Mains (JEE-MAINS) is conducted for admission to engineering colleges across the country, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is conducted for medical colleges.

There are speculations that the examinations will get deferred further. Students have taken to social media to raise their concern but an official decision is still awaited. The pandemic has also put a dampener on the plans of many students to study abroad.  Around 15 lakh students had applied for NEET 2020 this year, while nearly 9 lakh had applied for JEE Main in the first round. The application date was later extended to include students whose plans to study abroad got cancelled and this resulted in thousands more applying for JEE.
