New Delhi: The Centre appointed new directors to several Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on Monday. IIT Bombay professor Rangan Banerjee has been appointed as the next director of IIT Delhi.
Rangan Banerjee has completed BTech (Mechanical) from IIT Bombay. Later, he obtained a PhD (Mechanical Engineering), also from the same institute.
He was associated with the Department of Energy and Sciences & Engineering at IIT Bombay, a department he helped start in 2007.
"I am happy to inform you that Prof Rangan Banerjee from the Department of Energy Sciences & Engineering, IIT Bombay has been appointed as the next Director of IIT Delhi. Hearty congratulations and best wishes to Prof Banerjee," former director professor V Ramgopal Rao said on Facebook.

According to a report in The Indian Express, JNU Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar and IIT Delhi professor at the Department of Applied Mechanics Santosh Kapuria were also shortlisted for the post.
The shortlisted candidates were interviewed by a selection panel in September last year.
IIT Madras professor V Kamakoti, who designed India's first indigenously-developed microprocessor, has been appointed as the institute's director, PTI reported.

IIT Bombay's dean of alumni and corporate relations and mechanical engineering professor Suhas Joshi has been appointed as director of IIT-Indore. Laxmidhar Behera, IIT Kanpur electrical engineering professor, is the next director of IIT-Mandi.
