Ghaziabad: A 20-year-old law student died after allegedly jumping from her eighth-floor apartment on Monday, news agency PTI quoted Police officials as saying. The student, enrolled in a law college in Delhi, had been receiving treatment for mental health issues, as confirmed by her family.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sahibabad), Rajneesh Kumar Upadhiyai, stated that the student resided with her parents in a group housing society. On Monday, she reportedly jumped from their apartment and succumbed to her injuries.

Her family disclosed that she had been suffering from depression for approximately one-and-a-half years and had been receiving treatment from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru. "The parents provided police with documentation of her consultation at NIMHANS to corroborate her mental health condition," Upadhiyai mentioned.

Despite the family's hesitancy, the police sent the body for a post-mortem, labeling it an accidental death. Further legal proceedings are ongoing.
