ED Arrests 'Kingpin' in 2022 JKSSB Sub-Inspector Exam Paper Leak Case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday arrested the alleged mastermind of the 2022 JKSSB sub-inspector recruitment exam paper leak case as part of a money-laundering investigation, official sources told news agency PTI. Yatin Yadav, a suspected tout, was arrested in Jammu under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), according to the sources.

The Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB) sub-inspector recruitment exam was held on March 27, 2022. The ED case originates from a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) FIR and charge sheet filed against Yadav and several others.

The arrest coincides with allegations of irregularities in the conduct of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) and the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET), which have prompted the Centre to transfer their investigation to the CBI.

ED sources claimed that as the "kingpin" of the alleged paper leak gang, Yadav executed a well-crafted plan involving other accused touts based in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir, arranging candidates willing to pay between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 30 lakh to access the leaked paper.

Post examination, the payments collected from the aspirants -- mainly in cash -- were routed to Yadav's bank accounts, they said.

The ED had earlier attached Yadav's bank accounts, a company called New Global Fumigation Corporation and assets of some others worth Rs 1 crore as part of its probe. 

CBI Takes Over 5 More Cases Of NEET-UG Irregularities

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the investigation of five additional cases related to alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG medical entrance exam. Previously, these cases were being investigated by police in Bihar, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, news agency PTI reported on Monday, citing officials.

A two-member team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) collected all material evidence related to the alleged NEET-UG 2024 paper leak case from the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the Bihar police. The EOU had been handling the investigation until the CBI took over. The two CBI officials, a DIG and a deputy SP rank officer, also met with officials from the Shastri Nagar Police Station in the national capital, where the first case of alleged irregularities in the NEET examination was lodged.
