Delhi School Guidelines: On the backdrop of significantly surging cases of Coronavirus in different parts of the country, Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government on Thursday announced that schools in the national capital will remain shut till further orders.


Delhi's Directorate of Education (DoE) informed that students of any class in Delhi schools not be called in new academic session till further orders.

However, students of classes IX to XII (Session 2020-21) may be called to school only for providing the academic guidance and support for mid-term exams/ pre-board exams/ annual exams/ board examinations/ practical Exams, project work or internal assessment. 


"It is clarified that students of any class should not be called physically in school for the academic session 2021-22 till further orders. However, teaching learning activities may be commenced from 1t April 2021 for the students through digital modes for the new academic session," the DoE said in an official order.


The government also said that strict adherence of Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) for Covid-19 safety must be maintained by the school administration and students can be called to attend classes only with the consent of parents.

The announcement came soon after Delhi reported 2,790 new cases of Coronavirus and 9 deaths in the last 24 hours. During this time recoveries stood at 1,121 and total active cases in the national capital now stands at 10,498. 


Schools in Delhi were shut in March last year due to the nationwide lockdown announced by the Centre in order to contain spread of the deadly contagion. While schools in several other states were reopened in October last year, Delhi government allowed schools to resume only for classes 9 to 12 for remedial lessons from January 2021. 


Meanwhile, India recorded 72,330 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, highest since October 2020, taking the total tally to 1,22,21,665 on Thursday.
