NEET Result Controversy: Congress has strongly criticised the government's response to the ongoing demand for an inquiry into the NEET exam, calling it "irresponsible and insensitive." Gogoi emphasized the need for a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into the alleged NEET scandal, which has impacted approximately 24 lakh students.
"The Congress Party believes that the BJP government's attitude towards the ongoing demand for an inquiry into the NEET exam is irresponsible and insensitive. We demand a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into the entire scandal which has affected around 24 lakh students," Gogoi said. He highlighted the financial strain on ordinary families, noting that they have been forced to pay amounts close to Rs 30 lakhs due to promises made by various coaching and examination centers.

Gogoi expressed skepticism about the impartiality of an inquiry headed by the National Testing Agency (NTA). "No enquiry can be a just, fair, and comprehensive enquiry if it is headed by the NTA themselves," he stated. He also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of neglecting the NEET issue in favor of attending oath ceremonies and going on foreign trips. "Instead of paying attention to the NEET scam, PM Modi is busy attending oath ceremonies and going on foreign trips. Rest assured, the INDIA alliance will take up the cause of these students because that is our responsibility," he asserted.
Gogoi further mentioned the political strength of the INDIA alliance, suggesting that it is now sufficient to hold the government accountable. "Now the INDIA alliance has sufficient strength to bring the government to its knees and make them accountable to the students," he said.
He also questioned the timing of the NEET results declaration on June 4, implying that it was a strategic move to avoid scrutiny. "It is a mystery why these results were declared on June 4. It can only point that they knew there was a storm brewing and they wanted to avoid any discussions on the NEET results by declaring them on 4 June when the entire country would be talking about the election results," Gogoi added.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court accepted the NTA's proposal of conducting a re-exam for 1,563 candidates on June 23, 2024, with the NEET results scheduled for release on June 30. Candidates should note that the re-test is optional. The exam authority has clarified that those who opt out of the re-test will have their previous marks, excluding grace marks, considered in the final results.
