Amid growing concerns over holding board examninations at a large scale which could further push the caseload of Coronavirus in the country, the central government has announced to cancel CBSE Class 10 Board exams. 


The Ministry of Education in an official notice on Wednesday said, "looking at the present situation of the pandemic and school closures, and also taking in account the safety and well-being of the students, it is decided the Board Exams for Class Xth to be held from 4thMay to June 14th, 2021 are hereby cancelled."

Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank confirmed the development and informed that students of Class 10 will be promoted on basis of internal assessment. If a student is not satisfied with the assessment then he/she can appear for the examination once the situation is normal.


"The results of Class Xth Board will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the Board. Any candidate who is not satisfied with the marks allocated to him/her on this basis will be given an opportunity to sit in an exam as and when the conditions are conducive to hold the exams," the notice read. 


Earlier, the CBSE board examinations were scheduled to begin from 4 May and would have ended by 7 June for class 10 students and 11 June for class 12 students.

However, taking a note of surge in cases of Coronavirus, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday discussed the concerns in a meeting with Education Minister, Secretary and other important officials.


The crucial meeting also came after nearly 1 lakh students of class 10 and class 12 signed an online petition demanding cancellation of boar exams 2021.
