35-36 DU Teachers Die Of Covid-19 In March, Demand Job For A Member Of Deceased Family: DUTA

New Delhi: The Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) has expressed condolences over the sudden demise of regular and ad-hoc teachers and students of Delhi University (DU) due to the covid-19 pandemic. " 35-36 teachers of Delhi University have died in the last one month. There is no college on the varsity which hasn't witnessed a death of a teacher or a student. We are very sympathetic towards the Adhoc teachers," DUTA Vice President Alok Ranjan Pandey was quoted by ANI on its official Twitter handle. 

He further said that for the teachers who have succumbed to the Covid-19 disease, DUTA has written a letter addressing to the Vice Chancellor of DU and the Ministry to provide at least one member of their family a government job.

According to reports, the varsity has recently reviewed the DU Teachers’ Welfare Fund (DUTWF) to provide financial assistance to teachers in the time of the pandemic. It has been decided, that the varsity will provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the teachers including ad-hoc teachers who have succumbed to the Covid-19 infection after March 1, 2021.

India on Monday witnessed a steep decline in the number of fresh Covid-19 cases as the country recorded below 3 lakh Covid cases after 26 days. India reports 2,81,386 new COVID-19 cases, 3,78,741 discharges, and 4,106 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per Union Health Ministry.
