The Delhi Prisons Department suspended eight Tihar Jail staff members on Friday (May 5) in connection with the fatal stabbing of gangster Tillu Tajpuriya on the premises. Tajpuriya was allegedly stabbed "92 times" by four members of the rival Gogi gang – Deepak alias Titar, Yogesh alias Tunda, Rajesh, and Riyaz Khan, news agency PTI reported citing police officials.

According to a senior prison official, the incident prompted a departmental investigation.

"The report was received on Friday, and nine staff members were found to have made mistakes. We met with officials from the Tamil Nadu Special Police Force, and they agreed to take department action against their personnel," the officer was quoted as saying by PTI.

On the jail grounds, security is provided by the Tamil Nadu Special Police.

Former IPS officer Kiran Bedi stated in response to the murder of gangster Tillu Tajpuriya in Tihar jail that there is still much work to be done on training. She can be seen saying in a video posted by ANI, "I think we need to rework the training - how to intervene, to have some rehearsals. We need to improve our reflexes. Mock training will be required...Their visitors should be distinct from regular visitors. Their visitors should be acknowledged. Their case must be videotaped..."
