'PM Modi Couldn't Tolerate...': Atishi Slams Centre For Ordinance Giving Control Of 'Services' Back To Delhi LG

Atishi slammed the Centre for bringing an ordinance to give the control of 'services' back to Delhi LG and said that the Central government and BJP couldn't tolerate SC's decision.

Delhi Minister Atishi has slammed PM Narendra Modi-led Central government for bringing an ordinance to give the control of 'services' back to LG days after the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the AAP government in the national capital. Atishi said that PM Modi could not tolerate the fact that the top court 'empowered Arvind Kejriwal'. She added that the order meant that barring the issues of land, law and police, the decision-making power lies with the elected government of Delhi.

"The Supreme Court order meant that if the people of Delhi elected Arvind Kejriwal, decision-making power lies with him. That is what the Constitution says. Barring the issues of land, law & order and Police, all decision-making powers are with Arvind Kejriwal and LG is bound to accept all his decisions. This is democracy. But the Central Govt & BJP couldn't tolerate it.  PM Narendra Modi couldn't tolerate the fact that Supreme Court empowered Arvind Kejriwal," she said.

The AAP leader further said, "The ordinance brought by the Centre last night is unconstitutional and undemocratic."

Notably the Centre on Friday night an ordinance making the Lieutenant Governor the final arbiter in the matter concerned with "services", including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS. A 'National Capital Service Authority' has been established through an ordinance to make recommendations to the Delhi Lieutenant Governor regarding matters concerning transfer posting, vigilance and other incidental matters

The body will comprise of the Delhi Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and Home Secretary of Delhi government. "Provided also that in case of difference of opinion, the decision of the Lieutenant Governor shall be final," the order read.

"In view of its special status as a national capital, a scheme of administration has to be formulated by law, to balance both local and national democratic interests which are at stake, which would reflect the aspirations of the people through joint and collective responsibility of both the Government of India and the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD)," the government order read.

"A permanent authority headed by the Delhi chief minister is being introduced to make recommendations to the Lieutenant Governor regarding matters concerning transfer posting, vigilance and other incidental matters," it further said.
