A German Shepherd attacked a college student here on Thursday, causing damage to her mouth and hands, according to authorities, news agency PTI reported.

Preeti Bhati, the complainant, stated that she was distributing invitation cards for a friend's wedding in her Narsinghpur village neighbourhood when the dog, owned by one of her neighbours, came dashing out of the home and bit her - once on the lips and three times on her left hand.

Bhati, a third-year BA student, stated that her mother rescued her and took her to the hospital, and that once she was discharged, she filed a police complaint against the dog's owner.

"Kailash, the dog owner, did not even come out of the house for help. It was my mother who came running and rescued me," Bhati said in her complaint, PTI reported.

She said the dog had previously bitten her father as well.

According to Sector 37 police station officials, Kailash was charged on Wednesday under Section 289 (negligent behaviour with regard to animal) of the Indian Penal Code.

"We are investigating the matter. The student is out of danger. An FIR has been registered and action will be taken according to law," SHO Sunita was quoted by PTI in its report.

Earlier in November, a schoolboy was attacked by a pet dog inside the lift of a Greater Noida housing society.

The youngster was on his way to school with his mother. Inside the lift, they were joined by a man and his beloved dog. The dog is shown on CCTV assaulting the boy and biting his hand before being controlled by its owner.

Four shots were required for the schoolboy.

The occurrence at the La Residentia community has caused anxiety and animosity among the other families who reside there.
