The Delhi Police has taken several steps to ensure tight security in the national capital as the city gears to welcome the New Year. Speaking on the security preparations ahead of New Year celebrations, DCP (Shahdara) Rohit Meena said on Sunday that the police will take steps to prevent cases of drunk driving. He further stated that the safety and security of women will be a priority to avoid incidents of eve-teasing.
"We have identified 59 spots where people will come to celebrate New Year. We will take steps to prevent drunk driving cases and prioritise women's safety to avoid eve-teasing incidents," Rohit Meena said, as quoted by news agency PTI.
Meanwhile, security arrangements have been intensified in the border areas for New Year's celebrations in the national capital, PTI reported on Saturday, citing officials. The officials further stated that more than 10,000 police personnel are expected to be on the ground to rein in hooliganism and traffic violations.
"We want everyone to welcome the new year with great zeal but no one will be allowed to breach the law. Additional pickets, barricades and personnel -- including paramilitary deployment -- will be made at the borders to tackle nuisance by people from adjoining states," a senior police officer said, as quoted by PTI.
"The traffic police has already chalked out a plan to combat motorcycle stunts and drink driving. Additional forces from different police stations will be deployed to help the traffic police," said the officer. The police will work in two shifts and SHOs have been ordered to be on the road to maintain law and order on New Year's Eve.
"We have prepared two shifts for deployment. The first will start from 5 pm and run till midnight. The second one will be from midnight to 6 am," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Joy Tirkey has said, as quoted by PTI.
Delhi Fire Services Geared To Tackle Emergencies During New Year's Celebrations
The Delhi Fire Service is geared to handle any emergency in the national capital during the New Year's celebrations, a top official said on Saturday. "Our priority is to maintain a joyful atmosphere while prioritising the safety of all people," Delhi Fire Services chief Atul Garg said, as quoted by PTI.
Garg further stated that to ensure safety, 10 to 15 water tenders will be strategically stationed during the celebrations, Garg said.
The Delhi Fire Service has implemented strategic measures to handle emergencies in anticipation of high footfall at popular locations such as Lajpat Nagar, Connaught Place, and Ansal Plaza, he said.
Garg added, "The Delhi Fire Services is geared up to tackle any emergency situation that may arise during the celebrations," as quoted by PTI. Security has been beefed up to ensure smooth celebrations on New Year's Eve. Heavy police presence, water tender deployment, and heavy traffic arrangements have been ensured in Delhi.
