Delhi Coaching Centre Blaze: FIR Reveals Lack Of Fire Safety Measures, Owners Booked

Arrests made in Mukherjee Nagar fire case: Following an investigation into a lack of fire safety measures, Delhi Police apprehended two people in connection with the incident.

A recent fire in Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar resulted in troubling findings during the subsequent investigation by the Delhi Police. The inspection revealed a lack of adequate fire security measures in the building, according to the FIR. Notably, the water tank on the roof of the building was discovered to be empty, the fire hydrants appeared to be old and inoperable, and smoke indicators were not installed. In response, the Delhi Police have filed a case against the owners of the building and coaching centre under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to ANI, citing a Delhi Police official, two men have been arrested in connection with the case. Following the fire in Bhandari House, Batra Complex, a case was filed at Mukherjee Nagar police station.

"The case was filed under Sections 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others), 337 (causing hurt by endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous harm by endangering life or personal safety of others), 120B (punishment of criminal conspiracy), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC),' said Jitendra Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Northwest.

“Consequently, two men identified as Shivesh Mishra, 45, a resident of Mukherjee Nagar, and Shyam Sunder Bharti, 54, a resident of Model Town, have been arrested in connection with the case. They were later released on bail by a court,” the DCP was quoted as saying by ANI.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi High Court issued a notice to the Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in connection with the Mukherjee Nagar fire, which occurred after a fire broke out at the Sanskriti Coaching Centre.

In the suo motu case, a vacation bench of Justices Jasmeet Singh and Vikas Mahajan directed the Delhi Fire Service to conduct a fire safety audit and to check whether fire safety certificates were issued or not and requested a response within two weeks.

According to police, a PCR call was received at the Mukherjee Nagar police station on Thursday regarding a fire inside the Bhandari House building near the Batra Complex, prompting a police team to rush to the scene.
