A court in New Delhi on Monday ordered six suspects to be sent to 14 days' judicial custody for their involvement in the death of the 20-year-old woman who was dragged and killed by a car on the intervening night of January 1 and 2 in the Sultanpuri area of the national capital.

The victim, Anjali Singh, was with her friend Nidhi, at the time of the accident. Nidhi was riding pillion with Anjali. Nidhi was traced by the police after they examined CCTV footage.

The prosecution stated that during the suspects' interrogation, it was revealed that they were aware of the victim's body being dragged under the car. The investigation is ongoing and includes the collection of CCTV footage, the determination of the car's route, and the recording of statements from around 20 witnesses.

One additional witness, who was approximately 100 metres from the accident, has recently joined the investigation. The suspects, Deepak Khanna, Amit Khanna, Krishan, Mithun, Manoj Mittal, and Ashutosh, were initially arrested last Monday and had their custodial interrogation extended by four days on Thursday.

Another suspect, Ankush Khanna, surrendered to the police on Friday and was granted bail on Saturday. The incident occurred on New Year's Day when the victim's scooter was hit by the car, which then dragged her for 12 kilometres from Sultanpuri to Kanjhawala.

According to news agency ANI, Nidhi was arrested in Agra in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, (1985) case as per an FIR registered in December 2020. She is currently out on bail. Nidhi had been intercepted and arrested on December 6, 2020, at the Agra railway station for bringing ganja (marijuana) by train from Telangana. She was then placed under arrest. Two boys named Sameer and Ravi were also arrested along with Nidhi.
