'Is This Time For Politics?': In Letter From Jail, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Slams Haryana Govt Over Water Crisis

In a message from Tihar jail, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal slammed the Nayab Singh Saini government in Haryana for its alleged refusal to release the fair share of water for the national capital. He said with temperatures soaring beyond 50 degrees Celsius, Delhi is in dire need of water.

Sunita Kejriwal, the Delhi CM's wife, read out his letter: "The country is witnessing scorching heat this year, temperature has risen over 50 degrees Celsius. It is being said that this much heat is being experienced for the first time in about 100 years." 

"It has been our culture to offer water free of cost to the those thirsty as an act of virtue. But Delhi does not have water of its own and gets it from the neighbouring states from which the needs are fulfiled," said Kejriwal in his letter, read out by his wife. 

"We hoped that we would get more cooperation from the neighbouring states at this time but even in this time of crisis, Haryana has lowered the water that Delhi used to get daily," he said, adding, "People of Delhi are dying of thirst, where should they go?"

We know there aer different governments in Delhi and Haryana, but is the time to indulge in politics, he said. 

"If any part of the country is struck with earthquake or floods, we don't see which party's government is in power there. The entire country starts putting efforts towards providing relief that is why we are one country. But Harayan government is not bothered with any of this," he said further in the letter. 

Kejriwal also hoped that Atishi's indefinite hunger strike to press her demand for more water from Haryana will yield results. Sunita Kejriwal had read the letter from her husband where Atishi began her fast in south Delhi's Bhogal.
