Delhi Police Issues Public Advisory
The Delhi Police on Monday said that it had developed elaborate plans to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians, maintain a steady flow of traffic, and prevent reckless driving or stunts on two-wheelers, reported PTI.
According to officials, Shab-e-Baraat, which will be observed on the nights of March 7 and 8, will see the deployment of over 150 non-police company security personnel, 800 traffic police personnel, and 9,000 local police.
During Shab-e-Baraat, members of the Muslim community pray at mosques as well as beside the graves of their ancestors.
As per the police, in excess of 600 pickets and 1,300 bike watching groups will be sent across the public capital. Additionally, 283 strategic locations will see the deployment of 759 traffic officers.
According to the Delhi Police advisory, special teams of traffic police, PCR, and local police will be stationed on various roads to check for drunk driving and traffic rule violations because Holi and Shab-e-Baraat fall on the same day this year.
According to the statement, radar guns will also be used to check for overspeeding.
The advisory says that special teams with 2,033 officers will be sent to 287 major intersections and 233 places where people are likely to get drunk and be vulnerable for Holi.
"Further, as per the directions of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, in cases of drunken driving, red-light jumping, using mobile phone while driving, dangerous driving and over-speeding, driving license will also be seized and will be liable for suspension for a period of minimum three months.
"Action shall also be initiated against the registered owners of vehicles whose vehicles are found to be driven by minors/unauthorized persons, performing stunts, driving without a license, etc," it said.
The advisory stated that people should follow traffic laws and not drink and drive.
