With the preparation for Republic Day celebrations in full swing, the Delhi Traffic Police on Wednesday issued a traffic advisory to facilitate the smooth passage of the parade.


“Republic Day will be celebrated on 26th January 2023. The parade will start at 10.30 am from Vijay Chowk and proceed to Red Fort ground. There will be a related function at India gate at 9.30 am. There would be elaborate traffic arrangements and restrictions in place for smooth conduct of the Parade along the route,” Delhi Traffic Police said in an advisory on Wednesday.






Check Routes To Avoid On Republic Day 2023


Commuters must note that no traffic will be allowed on Kartavya Path from Vijay Chowk to India Gate from 6 pm on January 25, till the parade is over. No cross traffic on the Kartavya Path from 10 pm on January 25 at Rafi Marg, Janpath, Man Singh Road till the parade is over.


Also, the C Hexagon-India Gate will remain closed for traffic from 9.15 am on January 26 till the parade crosses Tilak Marg. Starting at 10.30 am on D-day, traffic on Tilak Marg, BSZ Marg and Subhash Marg will not be allowed on both roads and cross traffic will only be allowed depending on the parade movement, the advisory noted.


The city bus services will be curtailed at park Street/Udyan Marg, R/A Kamla Marg, Pragati Maidan (Bhairon Road), Aram Bagh road (Pahar Ganj), Delhi Sachivalaya (IG Stadium), Hanuman Mandir (Yamuna Bazar), Mori Gate, ISBT Kashmiri Gate, ISBT Sarai Kale Khan, Tis Hazari Court.


Alternative Routes On R-Day 2023


Delhi Traffic Police listed suggested routes for the public to avoid traffic. Commuters going towards New Delhi Railway Station from East Delhi can take the Boulevard Road via ISBT Bridge, Rani Jhansi flyover, Jhandewalan roundabout, DB Gupta Road, Sheela Cinema Road, and Paharganj Bridge.


Commuters can take the Bhavbhuti Marg route to travel towards the Ajmeri Gate side.


For those going towards New Delhi Railway Station from South Delhi can take the Dhaula Kuan, Vande Matram Marg, Panchkuian Road, Connaught Place outer circle, Chelmsford Road route for Paharganj side, or Minto Road.


Commuters going towards New Delhi Railway Station from East Delhi can take the Boulevard Road via ISBT Bridge, Rani Jhansi flyover, Jhandewalan roundabout, DB Gupta Road, Sheela Cinema Road, and Paharganj Bridge.


Those moving towards Mandir Marg can take the route from Madarsa, Lodhi Road T-point via Aurobindo Marg, AIIMS Chowk, Ring Road-Dhaula Kaun Vande Matram Marg, and Shankar Road.


Commuters travelling to Old Delhi Railway Station from South Delhi can take the route from Ring Road, Ashram Chowk, Sarai Kale Khan, Rajghat, Chowk Yamuna Bazar, SP Mukherjee Marg, Chhatta Rail and Kauria Bridge.


Delhi Metro Timings On Republic Day 2023


In order to avoid road closures and diversions, the Delhi Traffic Police has suggested commuters to avail of the Metro service on Republic Day. 


The Delhi Metro train service will remain available for commuters at all stations during the Republic Day Parade on Thursday.


Boarding and de-boarding at the Central Secretariat and Udyog Bhawan metro stations will only be permitted to invitees or ticket holders for the parade, from 5 am to 2 pm on Thursday.


Also, note that once the parade is over, the invitees or ticket holders can again board the metro from Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan or Mandi House metro stations. Parking facilities at metro stations will remain available for public convenience. 


It further advised the public to convey the nearest police official in case any suspicious person or object is seen.


Also, flying sub-conventional aerial platforms will be prohibited in the jurisdiction of the NCT of Delhi. The general public and motorists are advised to follow traffic rules and road discipline.


“People are requested to plan their journey in advance and keep sufficient time in hand to avoid inconvenience,” the advisory stated.
