Delhi: Teacher Who Threw Class 5 Student Off Balcony Sent To Judicial Custody Till Dec 20, Say Police
Geeta Deshwal, a teacher at Prathmik Vidyalaya in Model Basti, was arrested for beating a fifth-grade girl with a pair of scissors and pushing her over the first floor, where the classroom is located.
Police stated on Saturday that the teacher who was arrested for allegedly beating a class 5 student with a pair of scissors and then throwing her from the first-floor balcony of a municipal school here was placed in judicial custody until December 20. According to an official police statement, the event occurred early Friday morning at the Delhi Nagar Nigam Balika Vidyalaya.

"The accused was taken before a court on Saturday, which ordered her to judicial detention until December 20," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shweta Chauhan. The court further ordered that the accused be evaluated by a psychiatrist as well as by the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences.

On Friday, the student was allegedly assaulted with a pair of scissors, her hair was cut, and she was then tossed from the first-floor balcony of the school by her teacher, Geeta Deshwal (26), before becoming "violent" with other students in the classroom, news agency PTI reported.

According to physicians, the girl, who was around 11 years old, had a fracture in a facial bone. According to police, the teacher barricaded herself in the classroom with the pupils and began destroying their water bottles. She later struck the girl with a pair of scissors and threw her from the first-floor balcony of the school building.
Deshwal was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, according to police, who added that the motive for the act is still unknown.
