Delhi Pollution: Dust, Truck Emissions In Azadpur Mandi On L-G's Agenda For Meeting With CM Kejriwal
The decision comes a day after LG Saxena visited Azadpur Mandi following requests from the traders over lack of sanitation, parking issues and fire safety measures.
New Delhi: Amid the deteriorating air quality in the national capital, Delhi LG VK Saxena is set to discuss the issue of road dust and smoke emitted by the trucks in Azadpur Mandi in his next meeting with chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Raj Niwas officials said, as reported by news agency PTI.
The decision comes a day after LG Saxena visited Azadpur Mandi following requests from the traders over lack of sanitation, parking issues and fire safety measures.
"The most outstanding thing that came out during the visit was the prevalence of huge amount of flying road dust and smoke from trucks plying to and from the mandi. These were adding to the already alarming air quality emergency in the city. The LG said he will take up this issue with the chief minister in their next meeting," PTI quoted an official as saying.
The Raj Niwas official further said that during his visit, LG Saxena saw most of the issues were related to garbage which was not removed from the mandi and parking of trucks and other vehicles. He further saw "overflowing sewage, open defecation, stray animals, garbage all around", the official said.
The traders also said the traffic congestion was a fallout of just one entry and exit for the trucks in the area.
"The traders said this posed a serious threat in case of any emergency like the recent fire incidents in the mandi. Some other traders complained that the high mast lights inside the mandi were mostly non-functional and a large part of the market sinks into darkness after sunset," the official told PTI.
According to the report, LG Saxena asked the officials concerned to chalk out an action plan within a week after holding meetings with the different stakeholders.
He also asked the Municipal Corporation of Delhi officials to clean the piling garbage in the area and monitor the sanitation work. He also asked the officials to keep the LG Secretariat in the loop over the progress of the work.
