Delhi Police Registers Case After Pitbull Attack On 7-Year-Old Girl In Jagatpuri

A case under sections 289 and 337 of IPC has been filed against the dog owner based on the complainant's statement.

The Delhi Police said on Friday that a 7-year-old girl was bitten and dragged by her neighbour's Pitbull in the Jagatpuri area. Bite marks were discovered on her body, and the girl and her mother were transported to Hedgewar Hospital for Medico-Legal Case (MLC) preparation.

"A PCR call was received at Delhi's Jagatpuri Police Station at 8:47 pm yesterday, reporting that a 7-year-old girl had been bitten and dragged by a Pitbull belonging to her neighbour. Bite marks were found on her body, and both the girl and her mother were taken to Hedgewar Hospital for Medico-Legal Case (MLC) preparations," Delhi Police said, as reported by ANI.

"A case under sections 289 and 337 of IPC is being filed against the dog owner based on the complainant's statement", according to Delhi Police.

In a separate incident last week, a one-and-a-half-year-old named Divanshi succumbed to injuries inflicted by at least three stray dogs in Delhi's Tughlakabad, as reported by news agency PTI.

Family members rushed her to the hospital upon hearing her scream, but doctors declared her dead. The body has been sent for autopsy, and police are currently investigating the matter, as per the report.

Recent attacks by stray dogs, particularly on pedestrians and children, have reignited calls for immediate action by civic authorities. Incidents of violence have also erupted in certain areas, with anger directed at authorities over their alleged inaction in controlling stray dog populations.

Apart from concerns about stray dogs, confrontations involving pets have become prevalent in residential neighbourhoods. In the National Capital Region, disputes between pet owners and neighbours over allowing dogs in lifts have escalated, with viral videos depicting dogs attacking people in lifts eliciting strong reactions.

In another incident earlier this month, 20 stray dogs were found shot dead in Telangana's Mahabubnagar district. A case has been registered, and police are actively investigating the ruthless killings, a PTI report said.

According to another PTI report, cruelty towards animals extends beyond strays, as seen in Thane, where six dogs, including five pets, were poisoned.
