Delhi Police Bust 'Thak-Thak' Gang, Recover Rs 1 Crore Worth Of Diamond Jewellery, 2 Arrested

Delhi Police arrested two "Thak-Thak" gang members, recovering 23 stolen diamond articles worth Rs 1 crore from the Agra district of UP.

The Delhi Police announced on Tuesday that they have arrested two members of the 'Thak-Thak' gang, including a woman, and solved a case involving the theft of diamond jewelry worth Rs 1 crore from a car in the Agra district of UP. News agency PTI reported the police as stating that out of 36 articles, they have recovered 23 diamond articles from the accused which were stolen from the car of a diamond merchant the previous week.

As per PTI's report, the male suspect, Kunal (23), is a resident of Madangir in Delhi. However, police have not disclosed the name of the 38-year-old woman suspect who also hails from the Inderpuri area.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan highlighted that the gang typically targets businessmen and Jewellery shop owners in luxury vehicles. 

Elaborating on the gang's tactics, Chauhan said, "The gang members move in groups of two to four people riding motorcycle/scooter and use different techniques of 'thak-thak' to commit snatching/thefts from the vehicles."

"After setting the target, they used to stop the targeted vehicles by diverting the attention of the driver or passengers. Either they puncture the rear left tyre of the vehicle at any crossing or pour oil on the bonnet of the targeted vehicle. Sometimes, they used to throw eggs on the windshield of the targeted vehicle," said the DCP, PTI reported.

Delhi Police Bust 'Thak-Thak' Gang

Police received the information about members of the gang on Tuesday morning, and a trap was laid at Sector 4 in Pushp Vihar. "At around 6.15 am, the police team intercepted a pedestrian woman. Upon her search, diamond jewellery articles were recovered from her possession. The woman disclosed that she along with her other gang members committed the theft in the Loha Mandi area of Agra last week," DCP also said.

The woman also informed to police explaining that one of her associates was on the way to meet her as both of them had to go to dispose of the stolen jewellery articles. Later, the team also apprehended Kunal, and a few more jewellery articles were recovered from his possession, the officer added.

The DCP went on to say that on June 16, a police complaint was filed at the Loha Mandi police station in Agra. The complaint was filed for the theft of 36 diamond items worth a total of Rs 1 crore, along with Rs 1 lakh in cash and a laptop, from the diamond merchant's vehicle. "The gang was involved in committing such crimes in Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. Accused Kunal was previously involved in five different cases in Delhi and the woman in a theft case in Bhopal," said the DCP.
