A potentially disastrous incident was narrowly averted when a four-storey building collapsed in the Kalyanpuri area of Delhi on Saturday. The collapse was sudden, likely due to a crack in the building that appeared during drain excavation work, reports indicated.


A video of the collapse has gone viral, depicting scenes of panic among nearby residents, who can be seen rushing about in the aftermath. 






According to the ANI, after receiving a report about the building's tilt, the Police and Fire Department safely evacuated the building's occupants prior to its collapse. Therefore, no injuries were reported.

In similar instances, two people were killed and 17 were injured after the collapse of an under-construction building in UP's Muzaffarnagar on Sunday night, April 14, 2024.


According to ANI, the rescuers, along with local police, rescued 19 labourers buried under the debris of the market building. However, two people succumbed to their injuries. 


The authorities have arrested two people including, the landlord and contractor linked with the incident. 


"Authorities have apprehended two suspects, including the landlord and contractor, in connection with the incident, which occurred as a result of the market building collapsing in the Jansath police station vicinity," the official stated.


"It was reported at 5:30 in the evening that this complex fell. We have two lintel structures and we are removing the above lintel structure...We have rescued 15 people as of now and we are more than hopeful that we will rescue the other people who are inside this. The operations are on. It was a two-floor complex", Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abhishek Singh told ANI.


UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed the administration to make sure the injured received the best care and the people who were trapped were safely rescued. As directed by the chief minister, teams from the SDRF and NDRF were stationed at the location on Sunday night.
