A person was killed after a section of the boundary wall at Gokulpuri Metro Station on the Pink Line in northeast Delhi collapsed on Thursday. The incident occurred around 11 AM, several people sustained minor injuried. The deceased has been identified as a 53-year-old male. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced Rs 15 lakh in compensation for the family of the deceased. 


The DMRC also announced Rs 2.5 lakh for the grievously injured and Rs 50,000 for those who received minor injuries. 


Quoting the Delhi Fire Service, the report by ANI, said that the victim was trapped under the debris, necessitating a swift rescue operation.


Intially, the Delhi Fire Service officials said, "a side slab of the running metro line at Gokulpuri metro station collapsed today. One person was injured in the incident. He was rushed to a nearby hospital."






Locals And Police Jump Into Action


The report also quoted the DCP (northeast), Joy Tirkey who said, "at least 3 to 4 people were injured. One person was trapped under the debris and was grievously injured, while others sustained minor injuries.".






Prompt action by police personnel and public, led to the successful rescue of the trapped individual, who was said to have been riding a scooter at the time of the collapse. The victim was immediately rushed to GTB Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

According to the same report, efforts are underway to clear the debris from the street. Excavators have been deployed to facilitate the process. The Local police personnel and the Delhi Metro staff were also present at the spot. The DCP further said that a case has been filed under relevant sections in connection with the incident. 


DMRC Suspends 2 Officials


The transporters also suspended two of its officials over the collapse. "Two DMRC officials, a manager and a junior engineer from the civil department, have been immediately suspended," as statement by the DMRC read.


The DMRC will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident to implement necessary measures aimed at preventing similar unfortunate occurrences in the future.
