Arvind Kejriwal Arrest: The Enforcement Directorate arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after questioning him for around two hours in the Delhi Liquor Policy case on Thursday. This comes after Arvind Kejriwal approached the apex court seeking an urgent hearing of his petition after a high court division bench headed by Justice Suresh Kumar Kait refused to grant him interim protection against any coercive action by the probe agency.
According to ABP News sources, the hearing is unlikely to be held tonight. The vacation officer of the Supreme Court told ABP News that no lawyer from Kejriwal's team had reached out to him.
As per the rules, if an urgent hearing is sought in the apex court, the first step is to approach the vacation officer, after which the officer seeks permission from the CJI, who decides the future course of action as to whether to schedule a hearing or not.
The Aam Aadmi Party has said that Kejriwal will not resign and will likely run the government from prison. Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goyal also said that he won't resign.
On Thursday evening, a team of ED officials reached Kejriwal's residence in North Delhi's Civil Lines on Thursday evening, hours after the Delhi High Court denied him protection against "coercive action" by the agency, which has issued multiple summons to him.
He was summoned for the ninth time by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday in connection to the money laundering case. Reacting to the arrest, Atishi said, "We have moved the Supreme Court for quashing the arrest of Delhi CM by ED. We have asked for an urgent hearing by the Supreme Court tonight itself."
