Delhi Kanjhawala Case: New surveillance footage shows the accused outside the home of Ashutosh, the car's owner, hours after the hit-and-run case in which a 20-year-old woman died after being dragged beneath a car for many kilometres in the national capital's Kanjhawala, news agency ANI reported.
Ashutosh, the sixth suspect apprehended in connection with the January 1 incident, was nabbed on Friday, and a search for a seventh individual has been initiated.
Ashutosh is seen chatting to the accused two hours after the crime in new CCTV footage.
According to Delhi Police, CCTV footage shows that one of the accused arrived at 4:07 a.m. to see Ashutosh, and then Ashutosh is seen entering and going into his residence multiple times.
The police suspect the accused is none other than Ankush, who is the seventh culprit in the case and whose name has just surfaced in the case and throughout the occurrence.
On Thursday, Delhi Police Special Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Sagar Preet Hooda stated that Ashutosh and Ankush Khanna were friends of the five detained and attempted to protect them. The pair has also been charged with tampering with evidence and misleading police.
"In the new CCTV visuals, Ankush is also talking to someone on the phone," Delhi Police officials was quoted by ANI in its report.
"Ankush was talking to the accused on the phone. Ashutosh is last seen on CCTV walking towards his home at 4:52 am. According to the police, at 4.42 am Ashutosh left the house wearing a jacket and returned at around 4:52 am," police said.
The Delhi Police are questioning Ashutosh to find out where the accused went and what they spoke about during those ten minutes.
Ashutosh was detained on Friday, according to the Delhi Police. "In the Sultanpuri case, the sixth accused Ashutosh has been arrested who had given false information to the police. Further investigation is on," the Special Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Delhi Police Sagar Preet Hooda said today.
Deepak Khanna, Amit Khanna, Krishan, Mithun, and Manoj Mittal were detained previously in the case. The five were driving the automobile that Ashutosh had loaned them. On Thursday night, the five suspects were transferred to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital for medical assessment.
According to the police commissioner, Ashutosh and Ankush tried to tamper with the evidence in order to assist the accused.
The matter is being investigated by 18 Delhi Police units. During the interrogation, it was discovered that Amit Khanna, not Deepak, was driving the automobile.
According to the police, the testimony of eyewitness Nidhi has been recorded, and no relation between the eyewitness and the accused has been discovered.
"We can only give a statement if she was drunk or not only after the post-mortem report, it does not have relevance to this case, as it is a case under section 304 of the IPC," informed Special CP Hooda.
