Gokalpuri Metro: Delhi Govt Orders DMRC To Set Up Committee To Investigate Into Wall Collapse Incident

DMRC announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh for the family of the 53-year-old man who died in the incident, Rs 5 lakh for the grievously injured, and Rs 1 lakh for those who received minor injuries.

New Delhi: Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Thursday said that the state government has ordered Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to appoint an expert committee to investigate the wall collapse incident at the Gokalpuri metro station that claimed a man's life and left four others injured, as reported by PTI.

Earlier today, a 53-year-old man died after a section of the Gokalpuri metro station on the Pink Line in northeast Delhi collapsed. The man was riding his scooter when he came under the debris of the collapsed wall of the elevated platform.

"I have already told the MD, of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to constitute a committee of experts to examine the incident from all angles. Though no deadline has been given for submitting a report to the Delhi government, this should be done at the earliest," Gahlot told PTI.

Later in a post on X, Gahlot called the incident “deeply regrettable”.

“I’ve instructed @OfficialDMRC to form a Committee of Experts to investigate the matter, with a report due in two weeks, provide ex-gratia compensation within 24 hours and extend full support to the injured & their families for medical treatment,” he said in the post.

Gahlot said he has directed the DMRC to constitute a committee of experts that shall inquire into this incident and submit a report within two weeks.

“The DMRC shall disburse ex-gratia compensation as per rules within 24 hours. All necessary assistance shall be extended to the injured people and their families to ensure proper medical treatment,” read the order.

"At least 3 to 4 persons were injured. One person was trapped under the debris and was grievously injured, while others sustained minor injuries. Debris is being removed with the help of JCBs and cranes. Local Police and Metro staff are present at the spot. Case registered in the incident," said DCP North East Joy Tirkey, reported by ANI.
