Delhi Govt Opens 2 Of 5 Jammed Gates Of ITO Barrage As Flood Situation Improves In City
Of the 32 gates of the barrage, five were jammed due to silt accumulation, hindering the quick drainage of river water.
As the Delhi government makes efforts to get rid of waterlogging in parts of the national capital after the Yamuna water recedes from the city, two of the five jammed gates of the ITO barrage have been opened so far, as reported by PTI. Of the 32 gates of the barrage, five were jammed due to silt accumulation, hindering the quick drainage of river water. The Delhi government has been making efforts to open the jammed gates since July 13. "Gate number 30 of the ITO barrage opened at 5:19 am today," Saurabh Bharadwaj tweeted on Tuesday.
The last four days saw Delhi and Haryana governments sparring over the five jammed gates of the ITO barrage. Delhi officials claimed that the jammed gates caused the river to breach its embankments, resulting in flooding in low-lying areas of the capital.
The two governments have been at odds over ownership and maintenance responsibilities. The ITO barrage is owned by the Haryana government. While Delhi alleged that Haryana neglected maintenance despite repeated requests, the BJP-ruled state accused Delhi of not paying the engineers their dues.
Meanwhile, the traffic movement has resumed on several routes, including the Ring Road. However, some restrictions are still in place. According to traffic advisory, traffic movement has resumed for medium and light vehicles in the carriageway from ISBT Kashmere Gate via Salimgarh bypass up to IP flyover.

In view of water logging, just before the IP flyover, commuters are advised to take the left turn towards Vikas Marg and further take the loop or U-turn to go towards Sarai Kale Khan. Ring Road carriageway from Sarai Kale Khan to IP flyover via Geeta Colony underpass towards ISBT is opened for medium and light vehicles via Hanuman Setu, the advisory stated, as reported by the news agency PTI.
