'Delhi Govt Began Flexing': BJP On Reason Behind Ordinance To Overturn SC Verdict Favouring AAP

BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad stated: "We had to bring in ordinance because within a few days of Supreme Court judgement, Delhi government began flexing its muscles."

The BJP on Saturday stated that the recent ordinance implemented by the Centre, pertaining to the reshuffling and appointment of officials in Delhi, was introduced to promote “transparency and accountability,” news agency PTI reported. 

During a press conference, Ravi Shankar Prasad stated that the Supreme Court pointed out the lack of a specific law regarding the administration of Delhi under Section 42 of the Constitution.

Speaking with media, Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad stated: "We had to bring in ordinance because within a few days of Supreme Court judgement, Delhi government began flexing its muscles. It transferred IAS officer who was probing irregularities in Sheesh Mahal (Delhi CM's official residence)."

The reference made was regarding the considerable amount spent on refurbishing the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's official residence.

He remarked that under the ordinance, the committee responsible for recommending transfers and postings will continue to have the Delhi chief minister as its chairperson.

“Delhi is the heart of India. The entire country has a claim over it as its capital, which is frequently visited by dignitaries from the world over. We therefore needed a system in place which could ensure transparency and accountability in transfers and postings,” Prasad was quoted by PTI in its report.

The ex-Union minister of law and justice stated that Rajashekhar was investigating suspected misconduct in the Delhi Jal Board. "Not only has he been transferred, but a case has also been lodged against him on false allegations levelled by an NGO,” he said.

Prasad brought to attention the supposed coercion of two civil servants from the dalit community, one of whom is Ashish More, the services secretary, who lodged a complaint to both the Delhi chief secretary and lieutenant governor against minister Saurabh Bharadwaj.

“It was, therefore, necessary to bring about the ordinance which would ensure transparency and accountability in transfer and posting of officers and also protect the upright ones,” Prasad said.
