A massive fire broke out at the Marwadi Katra market area in Chandni Chowk, Delhi on Thursday. In order to douse the flames, around 40 fire tenders were rushed to the site. No one is reported hurt as yet and further details into the incident are awaited.

The cause behind the fire is yet to be ascertained. No casualties have been reported by the concerned authorities.

DFS chief Atul Garg told news agency PTI that initially 14 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. However, later 16 more tenders were pressed into service as the fire was massive.

"Our teams were working at the site and trying to douse the flames. The fire is massive and the operation may take more time to douse the flames completely," Garg said.

The fire started from Marwadi Katra market, spreading further to Anil Market, PTI reported citing a BJP spokesperson.

"They said a building at back side of the market has collapsed due to fire and water pressure," the spokesperson said.

'No Fire Brigade Station Even After Multiple Complaints'

BJP leader Praveen Khandelwal criticised the Delhi government after the fire incident and stated that even after multiple complaints and similar incidents in Chandni Chowk, there is still no sign of a fire brigade station in the area.

"The massive fire that broke out in Chandni Chowk is extremely saddening. We should understand that every year, we witness such incidents in Chandni Chowk. A fire brigade station is not being set up in the area even after multiple complaints. Delhi government is keeping silence in the matter," BJP leader Praveen Khandelwal said.
