Delhi: Drone Spotted Near Akshardham Temple Seized, Bangladeshi Woman Questioned

A drone flying near the Akshardham Temple in Delhi was seized by police on Monday and a Bangladeshi woman operating it was interrogated, PTI reported. Akshardham Temple in east Delhi is a 'No Drone Zone' area.

After the drone was spotted near the temple, a police team from Mandawali police station reached the spot and found that a Bangladeshi woman was operating it without permission. 

The woman has been identified herself as Momo Mustafa (33), a resident of Bangladesh capital Dhaka. Mustafa claimed that she ran a photography business in Dhaka and came to India on a six-month tourist Visa in May, PTI reported.

The drone was seized and a case has been registered under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code.

Further enquiry is underway, police said

"After receiving information regarding a flying drone near Akshardham Temple, a police team from PS Mandawali reached the spot where one Momo Mustafa (photographer) was found with one drone," Delhi Police said in a statement. 

"She was flying a drone in 'No Drone Zone' area without any permission from competent authority. A case has been registered u/s 188 IPC at PS Mandawali and further investigation is underway," police further said.

Last week, the Border Security Force (BSF) shot down a drone carrying two kg of heroin worth Rs 10 crore near the Indo-Pak border in Sriganganagar district. The incident happened on June 24.

The BSF jawans, during patrolling on Friday night, heard a drone flying in the Gharsana border area of the district. They fired at the drone and it crashed, BSF DIG Pushpendra Singh Rathore said on Saturday.

Two packets of heroin were recovered from the drone. Rathore said the smugglers had come to receive the parcel in the night and managed to escape in the cover of darkness.
